But did she make the right call? Or will things fall apart and turn into an on-stage disaster, in front of everyone? Read the comic here on my website or Webtoons if you prefer vertical-scroll format! See more of my comics here! Mother Eve (2026) – Illustration I didn’t know I was drawing Eve until I started drawing the vines softly wrapping around her lovely figure. The woman came first – lush, sensuous and abundantly feminine, but not fragile or weak. She was boldly and unapologetically herself, in all her fullness and graceful allure. She would have been a masterpiece in of herself, but I wasn’t sure where the piece was going, or exactly what I was going to do with it. Then, as the vines started emerging, cascading down her generous silhouette – it all made sense. The vines became a lush garden, and the luscious, luxuriant […] - [About Me](https://langstondraws.com/about-me/): I am a beloved human who is an Atlanta-based artist, writer, illustrator and comic creator. I believe in telling stories of hope in times that feel hopeless. I currently reside near Atlanta, Georgia, where the fusions of culture, music, creativity, diversity, entertainment and faith all inspire the life and vibrancy of my work. As a kid, I grew up drawing cartoons in notebooks, until I became older and graduated to devouring YA novels and TV shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Young Justice. I decided I wanted to be an YA author when I grew up, but by the time […] - [Contact](https://langstondraws.com/contact/): Thanks so much for taking time to visit my site! Pulling from Langston Hughes’ “A Dream Deferred” and Proverbs 13:12 from the Hebrew Bible, “A Dream Deferred” is a window into the emotional and psychological toil of political crisis and social turmoil. Hope deferred makes the heart sick,    but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. -Proverbs 13:12 Made in Procreate🎨 - [Black Princess Peach (Super Mario) [2020]](https://langstondraws.com/black-princess-peach-super-mario-2020/): Made in 2020 just for fun 🙂 You can watch a timelapse/speedpaint video of the drawing process here. - [Unprecedented: Chapter 1 (2020-2021)](https://langstondraws.com/unprecedented-chapter-1-2020-2021/): Unprecedented: Chapter 1 (2020-2021) “Unprecedented” is a story I’ve attempted multiple times as a webcomic over the years, with the most recent self-published attempt being a 17 episode webtoon that ran from Oct 2020 to March 2021. While I got to 20 pages, I was not able to finish the first chapter. The story is near and dear to me, and a new attempt to tell the story is in progress (this time as a one-shot rather than a full length series – though a series is still the long-term goal). That being said, I still want to share the completed […] - [73 (2021)](https://langstondraws.com/73-2021/): This comic was made for a creative challenge I joined as part of a Christian creative Discord community. The challenge was to create a piece of art based on Psalm 73 – regardless of medium. Many people did songs, poetry, or visual art – like myself. The Psalm tells the story of someone who has lived correctly before God but is dismayed at how the wicked and those who do evil continue to flourish and succeed, despite filling the world with violence and treachery. The psalmist questions their own allegiance to God and whether it was worth it to follow Him, […] - [Milestone Initiative Entry (2021)](https://langstondraws.com/milestone-initiative-entry-2021/): This was a 3-page comic I made for my application to the Milestone Initiative program in 2021. As part of the application, we were given a 3 page script that we had to adapt into a comic. While not my best work to date, it shows my growing capacities at that time and gives a sense of development to my portfolio, art and storytelling abilities. While I can now see why I wasn’t selected for the program, I nevertheless feel proud of the work I accomplished at that time. Made in Clip Studio Paint! - [Figure Study - Sade (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-sade-2026-2/): The shading really brings out her face, and I love how bouncy and life-like her curls look. I also love how soft and grounded her form feels. - [Figure Study - Shadia Ampadu III (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-shadia-ampadu-iii-2026/): I wanted to practice capturing her hair, figure, pose, facial expression and clothing. I feel I did great on all 5 fronts. 😁 I’m also really happy with the shading, especially in how it accentuates the softness of her back. Made in Autodesk Sketchbbok - [Traevon & Yasmin (2021)](https://langstondraws.com/traevon-yasmin/): Traevon and Yasmin are two characters from an upcoming one-shot and potential series. I developed them both in 2021, inspired by watching my brother play Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. When I applied to the Nick Artist Program for their 2022 year, included these designs in my portfolio. Although I wasn’t accepted, I’m proud of this work! Keep reading to meet them both! Traevon: His general design is inspired by the historical Black cowboys of America’s West and Link’s character design from The Legend of Zelda. His shield, with its shape and geometric designs, is based on the real-life […] - [Vanessa and the Storm (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/vanessa-and-the-storm-2026/): Vanessa and the Storm (2026) Vanessa and The Storm is a one-shot comic about Vanessa Her: a young Hmong-American woman who makes a fateful choice while performing with her band, The Storm. When she pushes through her fears and performs a gripping, powerful song, it happens to deeply touche Parvana, an Afghan-American refugee who needs to hear it. The main theme centers around the power of art/creativity to touch people, and the responsibility of artists/creative people to get out of the way and let that happen. It combines my love of music with my humanitarian concerns of the world, along with […] - [Vanessa (2024)](https://langstondraws.com/vanessa-2024/): “Vanessa” (2024) “Vanessa” is a one-shot that tells the story of a girl who performs a vulnerable song at a music festival. It ends up touching Parvana – an Afghan-American refugee – who really needs to hear the song Vanessa has to sing. The main theme centers around the power of art/creativity to touch people, and the responsibility of artists/creative people to get out of the way and let that happen. The story is explored more fully in Vanessa and the Storm, but this was the first attempt to put this story down in comic form. Because of that, it will […] - [Figure Study - Rachel Anastacia (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-rachel-anastacia-2026/): I love the pose and was really happy with the details like her hair, hands, and clothing texture. I am glad this came out so well! Made in Autodesk Sketchbook. - [Figure Study - Shadia Ampadu (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-shadia-ampadu-2026/): I wanted to practice capturing her hair, figure, pose, facial expression and clothing. I was also experimenting with using the airbrush for shading, which really made things pop. Made in Autodesk Sketchbook. - [Figure Study - Brielle Anyea (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-brielle-anyea-2026/): Love her smile and how I was able to capture her hair. It was also great practice for shading via line work. Made in Autodesk Sketchbook. - [Figure Study - Shadia Ampadu II (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-shadia-ampadu-ii-2026/): I wanted to practice capturing her hair, figure, pose, facial expression and clothing. Definitely one of my favorite sketches/practices. Made with Autodesk Sketchbook. - [Figure Study - Bianca Davies (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-bianca-davies-2026/): One of my favorites. 🙂 Her expression seems so free and joyful. The photo was a great reference to work with. Reference image: https://www.naturalmodelsla.com/divisions/ny-main/portfolios/bianca-davies#portfolio-slider-36 Made in Autodesk Sketchbook. - [Figure Study - Tabria Majors (2025)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-tabria-majors-2025/): This is an earlier practice compared to many of the other ones, but I like focus on her form and the shadows. Made in Ibis Paint X. - [Figure Study - Sarina Nowak (2025)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-sarina-nowak-2025/): Another early practice of mine, and another favorite. 🙂 I love how I captured her smile, and the way I did the shading, despite it being one of the first of these studies I did. Sometimes older work surprises you! Made in Ibis Paint X. - [Figure Study - Bree Kish (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/bree-kish-figure-study-2026/): I like how I used the different colors to highlight the different layers of structure/detail I was using in the drawing. I’m also pretty impressed in how I captured her expression, the details and texture of her hair, the softness/fullness of her figure and her pose. Made in Autodesk Sketchbook. - [Figure study - Jennifer Atilemile (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-jennifer-atilemile-2026/): Made in Autodesk Sketchbook - [Figure Study - Scarlet Castro (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-scarlet-castro-2026/): Made in Autodesk Sketchbook - [Figure Study - Audrey Littie (2025)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-audrey-little-2025/): Another oldie but goodie 🙂 You could tell I was improving at the shading and facial expressions. Plus, the photo reference was so radiant and joyful. Those are always fun to work with. Made it Ibis Paint X. - [Figure Study - Erica Lauren (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-erica-lauren-2026/): I love the reflection in the mirror behind her. It’s really mesmerizing and immerses you in the piece. That’s great composition by the original photographer. I was timing myself with the drawing, hence the “21 min” in the corner. Not bad! Made in Autodesk Sketchbook. - [Figure Study - Makela Saint-Fort (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-makela-saint-fort-2026/): Love the strong pose here, I feel like it gives everything so much personality. I was also challenging myself to draw faster without losing quality, hence the “13 min” in the corner. That was pretty good! Made in Autodesk Sketchbook - [Figure Study - Ashourina (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-ashourina-2026/): This was a great pose, because I felt like it blended elements of a 3/4 and back view, with the model also turning her head to look right at the viewer. It was great practice to think of the human figure outside of just the “side-back-front-3/4 view” approach that you can get stuck in when designing characters. Real people are much more dynamic! Also her hair is incredible. Made in Autodesk Sketchbook - [Figure Study - Sade II (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-sade-2026/): This may be one of the most elegant studies. The details on her braids, especially at the roots, make me really happy. Made in Autodesk Sketchbook. - [Figure Study - Tabria Majors II (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-tabria-majors-ii-2026/): This was made in pencil in Clip Studio. I don’t remember what made me want to try something different. (I usually use Clip for comics and the occasional illustration, not sketches.) But I like how this came out. It was a great process. Her shoes also look pretty fire. Made in Clip Studio Paint - [Figure Study - Alexis Rackley (2025)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-alexis-rackley-2025/): Figure study of model Alexis Rackley. Another oldie but goodie! The line-art is more shaky and less confident, but I love her radiant smile I captured. The form is pretty strong, too. Made in Ibis Paint X. - [Figure Study - Gia Fu (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-gia-fu-2026/): I often have Gia Fu’s mixes on when I’m working or drawing, so it was fun drawing her literally in her element (based on one of her video thumbnails). Made in Autodesk Sketchbook. - [Figure Study - Jessica Gomes (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-jessica-gomes-2026/): This was a really cool pose. Glad I got to study it! Made in Autodesk Sketchbook - [Figure Study - Ashourina II (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-ashourina-ii-2026/): This was a really dynamic pose, glad I captured it well! Also love the updo. Made in Autodesk Sketchbook - [Figure Study - Leslie Sidora (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/figure-study-leslie-sidora-2026/): Another favorite. I particularly loved focusing on her hair, clothing folds and figure. Made in Autodesk Sketchbook. - [Red, White and Blue (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/red-white-and-blue-2026/): This piece was a personal reflection on my feelings about America’s 250th anniversary. Created on July 4th, it simply yet powerfully speaks of the grief and sorrow felt by myself and many other Americans at the current state of our country. . . from the mass deportations to the murders by ICE, to the gutting of the Voting Rights Act, to the death of Nolan Wells, the US-Iran war, US complicity in Israeli war crimes in Gaza and Lebanon, ongoing political polarization and radicalization online, hollowing communities and skyrocketing loneliness, growing animosity between young men and women, increasing inequality and unrestrained […] - [Mystery the Detective (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/mystery-the-detective-2026/): Mystery is a character I created for Artfight 2026. My inspirations where Carmen San Diego, Lara Croft, various spy & action movies I had seen growing up, and plus size fashion models like Leslie Sidora and Sarina Nowak. - [Mary2020 (2020)](https://langstondraws.com/mary2020-2020/): Created in the ongoing aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic and the #BlackLivesMatter protests after the murder of George Floyd in 2020 (and Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery the same year), Mary2020 is an exploration and testament to hope, beauty and faith in the midst of despair, pain and hopelessness. I created the piece while observing Advent and reflecting on the Virgin Mary, who in many ways was marginalized as a young woman. Living in a in a patriarchal culture living under the thumb of a brutal, Western imperial power, she faced social scorn and discrimination, and bore shame due to her […] - [Mary & Joseph (2025)](https://langstondraws.com/mary-joseph-2025/): The sequel to “Mary2020”, it reimagines the biblical Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph as a contemporary Black American couple. It humanizes both the parents of Jesus Christ, as well as people of the African Diaspora, by demonstrating that the descendants of enslaved people today and the biblical couple of the past may have more in common than we realize. It also highlights Joseph’s faithfulness, loyalty, compassion and strong sense of self. In a time where he could have easily had Mary punished and even killed for getting pregnant during their engagement (with a child that was not his), he stayed with […] - [Muse (2026)](https://langstondraws.com/muse-2026/): “Muse” was created after a time of reading about and studying the work of two great Baroque painters, Peter Paul Rubens and Titian. I was particularly amazed and inspired how they painted and portrayed women. Inspired by their approach, I wanted to try my hand at creating something similar to their work, but more contemporary and distinctly my own. “Muse” was the result. The piece celebrates the subject, an anonymous Black woman, as the true work of art. She is the muse that inspires and moves the artist to create. She is the one who’s beauty, nobility and allure drives the […] - [Black Nausicaä (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind) [2020]](https://langstondraws.com/black-nausicaa-nausicaa-of-the-valley-of-the-wind-2020/): I made this for Blacktober in 2020. It was really fun. You can find the timelapse drawing here. - [Black YaoMomo (My Hero Academia) [2021]](https://langstondraws.com/black-yaomomo-my-hero-academia-2021/): Made for Blacktober 2021! - [Portfolio](https://langstondraws.com/portfolio/) ## Optional - [Agent (MCP protocol)](websites-agents.hostinger.com/langstondraws.com/mcp) [comment]: # (Generated by Hostinger Tools Plugin)
