This comic was made for a creative challenge I joined as part of a Christian creative Discord community. The challenge was to create a piece of art based on Psalm 73 – regardless of medium. Many people did songs, poetry, or visual art – like myself.
The Psalm tells the story of someone who has lived correctly before God but is dismayed at how the wicked and those who do evil continue to flourish and succeed, despite filling the world with violence and treachery. The psalmist questions their own allegiance to God and whether it was worth it to follow Him, basically accusing God of falling asleep at the wheel. I related to those themes of questioning if your choices were worth it, especially when you did everything “right” and things still did not end up like you hoped. In this short autobiographical comic, I explore those themes and what I imagined God was saying to me through them.
Like the Psalm, the comic ends in tension. God is good, even when the world is not. Will we trust Him?
